Amtrak, MTA complete joint project to upgrade Baltimore station's restrooms

Amtrak and the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) have completed a $1 million joint project to renovate restrooms at Baltimore Penn Station.

The project, which began in July and was completed ahead of schedule, included work on the facilities to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility requirements, Amtrak and MTA officials said in a press release.

The project is part of a larger plan to improve Penn Station. An additional $2.2 million in station upgrades are planned over the next 18 months, including a new ADA-compliant passenger information display system, expanded community programming on the plaza and the launch of a multimedia experience for visitors arriving by rail.

The restroom improvements build upon $8.5 million in Amtrak and state-funded investments in the historic station over the past three years, Amtrak and MTA officials said.

"Amtrak and our partners in Maryland continue to work together to make important improvements to enhance the station and passenger experience," said Stephen Gardner, Amtrak's vice president of Northeast Corridor infrastructure and investment development.
