Amtrak preps RFQ for Baltimore station redevelopment

Amtrak will release a request for qualifications (RFQ) later this month to potential developers interested in the redevelopment of Baltimore Penn Station and adjacent properties.

The railroad is advancing a two-step procurement, including the RFQ, followed by a request for proposals that will be issued to a short-list of qualified master developer teams, Amtrak officials said in a press release.

The solicitation remains open to all prospective bidders, regardless of their participation in Amtrak's request for information process in January.

Baltimore Penn Station is one of the most critical assets in Amtrak's network, said Stephen Gardner, Amtrak's executive vice president of infrastructure and investment development.

The RFQ represents an important step that "underscores Amtrak’s efforts to execute smart, expedient and synergistic business transactions that can transform Baltimore Penn Station and enhance Amtrak’s business," Gardner said.
