Rail News: Amtrak

Amtrak restoring more Northeast services today, including Acela

Starting today, Amtrak will restore Acela Express and Northeast Regional modified service on the Northeast Corridor between Boston and Washington, D.C., via New York City.

Amtrak and other passenger railroads serving the region have been restoring service gradually since Hurricane Sandy struck the area earlier this week, knocking out passenger-rail, subway and other transit services. Today is the first day Amtrak will operate Acela Express service since the storm.

Services to and from New York City may be delayed as repairs continue, Amtrak officials said in a prepared statement.

Other plans for full or modified service today include the Keystone, Crescent, Pennsylvanian, Cardinal, Vermonter, Maple Leaf, Carolinian, Palmetto, Silver Star, Silver Meteor and Lake Shore Limited.

Other track owners continue to repair the route between New York City and Albany-Rensselaer, with no time estimate available for service restoration for Empire service trains between New York City and Buffalo/Niagara Falls, the Adirondack to and from Montreal, Quebec, and the Ethan Allen Express to and from Rutland, Vt., Amtrak officials said.

Amtrak encouraged riders to monitor Amtrak.com/alerts, and Northeast Corridor passengers on Acela Express, Northeast Regional or Keystone services to follow @AmtrakNEC on Twitter to be notified when updates are posted on Amtrak.com. The railroad also will provide updates on its Facebook.com/Amtrak and Twitter.com/Amtrak pages.
