Amtrak announced yesterday Cascades passenger-rail service will return to Vancouver, British Columbia, on Sept. 26 following a two-year suspension due to the pandemic.
The first train to Vancouver will depart from Seattle at 7:45 a.m. Sept. 26, stopping at five cities along the way and arriving in Vancouver four hours later. Southbound service will depart Vancouver at 5:45 p.m. and arrive in Seattle at 10:10 p.m.
The roundtrip will be offered daily, with a second daily roundtrip added in the future as Amtrak staffing and equipment allows, Amtrak officials said in a press release. Service has been suspended since March 2020.
In addition to standard entry documents, travelers crossing the border between the United States and Canada will need to provide COVID-19 vaccination documentation, Amtrak officials said. All riders will also need to wear a mask while in Canadian train stations.
Once service resumes, the Cascades train will also run three daily roundtrips between Portland and Seattle, and two daily roundtrips between Portland and Eugene, Oregon.
