BNSF Railway Co.'s rail network is in its "best condition" following its record investment of $6 billion in capital improvements in 2015, the railroad announced on its website. In a New Year's message to employees and customers, BNSF officials noted that the railroad double-tracked more than 120 miles, placed nearly 900 new miles under centralized traffic control, and added five new sidings and 16 extended sidings."These projects have generated significant improvements in operational performance," the message stated. "Only 7 miles of single track remain on the Southern Transcon, while half of our Northern Transcon route is now double-tracked."The additional capacity puts the network in a good position to help the Class I's customers "develop growth opportunities in 2016 and beyond," BNSF officials said.
