BNSF among magazine's top diversity performers for seventh-straight year

BNSF Railway Co. has been named a 2013 Best Diversity Company by the readers of Diversity/Careers in Engineering & Information Technology magazine for the seventh consecutive year.

The list honors companies that readers ranked at the top for their support of minorities and women, attention to work/life balance and commitment to supplier diversity.

In March and April, magazine readers and visitors to its website were asked to identify U.S. corporations, government agencies and other organizations that stand out in diversity, based on their perceptions, experiences or conversations. Readers could affirm the status of previously recognized organizations or nominate new ones.

Since 2007, the publication has featured BNSF employees multiple times when highlighting diverse talent within the transportation and technology field, said Lettie Haynes, the Class I's assistant vice president of technology services, in an item posted on the "BNSF News" web page.

"BNSF values diversity because diverse perspectives enable innovation, creativity and productivity across cultural, geographic and functional boundaries," said Ed McFalls, the railroad's AVP of human resources and diversity.
