The San Joaquin Council of Governments (SJCOG) has approved $14 million in Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funding from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for the San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission's Stockton Diamond grade separation project in Stockton, California.

Currently, Union Pacific Railroad and BNSF Railway Co. tracks intersect at-grade in the city of Stockton. It's the busiest and most congested rail bottleneck in California, SJCOG officials said in a press release.

The grade separation project will enable uninterrupted rail traffic flow, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance mobility for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists, and improve on-time performance for passenger rail.
