The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is holding an open house today to solicit public feedback on a potential Union Pacific Railroad grade crossing closure in Midland.

The crossing connects Business Interstate 20 with a service road. The closure has been proposed due to safety concerns, TxDOT officials said in a meeting notice.

Meanwhile, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio has approved construction authorization from the Ohio Rail Development Commission directing Norfolk Southern Railway to upgrade a crossing in Liberty Township.

The Class I will install mast-mounted flashing lights and roadway gates at the Hieber Road/Township Road 99 crossing.

Work must be completed by Dec. 27 on the project, which will be funded by federal sources.
