Ohio commission authorizes crossing upgrades

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) recently authorized the Ohio Rail Development Commission to direct R.J. Corman Railroad Co. to install flashing lights and gates at a grade crossing in Beach City.

Funding for the upgrade will be covered by federal dollars. The railroad will be responsible for completing construction by Sept. 14, 2012.

PUCO is responsible for evaluating the state’s public crossings to determine the need for installing active warning devices. In 2010, the commission played a role in the installation of lights and gates at 72 crossings statewide.
