Three crossing projects advance in Ohio

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has approved construction authorization involving safety upgrades at three grade crossings.

Norfolk Southern Railway will install flashing lights and warning gates at the State Route 13 crossing in Chauncey. Funding for the project, which must be completed by April 24, 2014, will be shared by PUCO, the railroad and Ohio Rail Development Commission.

Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Co. will add a flasher assembly on the right-hand side of the Third Street crossing in Tiltonsville, and CSX Transportation will install mast-mounted flashing lights and roadway gates at the Roundhead Road/Township Road crossing in Milton.

Funding for the Milton project — which CSX must complete by Jan. 24, 2014 — will be covered by federal dollars.
