CP offers new service for shipping perishables

Canadian Pacific has launched CP TempPro for shipping perishable products, the Class I announced yesterday.

The new service will enable CP to grow its business with perishable protective service (PPS) customers. CP has a growing fleet of PPS to transport products that require strict temperature settings.

TempPro ensures that customers' products are transported in a reliable, fuel-efficient temperature-controlled environment, CP officials said in a press release.

Last year, CP purchased 41 gensets to better support international customers. However, these gensets also support the new reefer domestic repositioning program (reefer DRP), which is designed to create new shipping options for domestic customers and provide improved round trip economics for international shippers.

This year, CP will invest in over 400 new 53-foot reefers to support the growing temperature-control market. CP will offer Thermo King's SLXi-DRC model, which features a slimmer design that allows for two additional pallet positions in a shipment. The SLXi-DRC also uses a greener refrigerant, R-452A, which decreases global warming potential over its predecessor, the R-404A, CP officials said.

In addition, CP is purchasing over 350 53-foot heater units. Combined, these investments will support CP TempPro, they said.
