Canadian Pacific unveils faster transcontinental intermodal services

Today, Canadian Pacific announced it launched new, faster intermodal services connecting Vancouver, British Columbia, to Toronto and Chicago.

New seven-day-per-week schedules cut a day in transit time for intermodal loads moving 2,600 miles from Toronto to Vancouver, and two days for loads moving 2,200 miles from Vancouver to Chicago. The changes reduce transit time between Vancouver and Chicago or Toronto to four days.

A complete redesign of the transcontinental system and benefits from previous capital investments in the network are enabling shippers who want fast and reliable transportation options coupled with consistent transit times to take advantage of the railroad's new schedules to reach existing and emerging markets worldwide, CP officials said in a prepared statement.

"With lower dwell times in our terminals, more efficient transit times and optimized asset utilization, we can provide this improved service," said Canadian Pacific Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Jane O'Hagan. "As part of the global supply chain, we want to help our customers be more competitive in the markets they serve."

CP currently is piloting other service enhancements across its network in an effort to further boost operational performance. Last year, intermodal accounted for 26 percent of CP's annual revenue.
