Indiana airport authority signs off on CSX pact for CN track relocation work

advertisement

On Monday, the Gary/Chicago International Airport Authority approved an agreement with CSX Corp. regarding a runway expansion planned by the Gary, Ind., airport.

The pact allows the authority to move heavy equipment within 50 feet of CSX tracks so new bridges can be built to carry CN tracks over Norfolk Southern Railway tracks north of the airport.

All three railroads are involved in a project calling for shifting CN tracks, which currently block the site for a proposed main runway expansion. The track relocation was the biggest obstacle to the start of the runway expansion project, according to the authority, which late last year reached an agreement with CN to move the tracks.
