Yesterday, CSX Corp. released its 2011 Corporate Social Responsibility report, which outlines the Class I's operational, environmental, social and financial performance.

The report shows that in 2010, CSX reduced its greenhouse-gas emissions intensity 8 percent from 2006 levels. The Class I now has committed to an additional 6 percent to 8 percent reduction by 2020. The document also notes that the railroad surpassed the 17,000-tree mark in its “Trees for Tracks” campaign, which aims to get a tree planted for every mile in CSX's 21,000-mile network.

In addition the report shows that in 2011, CSX registered a record-low operating ratio of 70.9 and budgeted capital investment at more than $2.2 billion; this year, railroad has budgeted $2.25 billion.

“CSX is achieving milestones in environmental stewardship and community and employee engagement, while at the same time driving commercial, financial and operational success,” said Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Ward in a prepared statement. “Measurement of these efforts and transparent reporting benefits shareholders, customers, employees and communities alike.”

The 2011 report includes a new online hub, www.CSXCSR.com, that enables readers to customize the document and email it directly from the web site.
