CSX has released its 2022 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report highlighting progress in advancing its workforce and improving environmental stewardship, social responsibility and governance best practices over the past year.
The report details CSX's expanded use of "cutting-edge" fuel-saving locomotive technologies, as well as greenhouse gas emissions goals and expectations involving suppliers. Among those actions, CSX upgraded 180 locomotives to distributed power; engaged 50 suppliers in the CDP Supply Chain program; and helped customers avoid 12.5 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions, company officials said in a press release.
CSX also took historic actions to improve labor-management relations and quality of life for front-line employees. Those accomplishments included becoming the first in the industry to provide paid sick leave benefits; raising training pay for conductors by 40%; and introducing a revised nondisciplinary and non-punitive attendance policy for all craft employees.
