Four Class Is rank as 'best employers' for military veterans

Four Class Is have made this year's Military Times list of employers who rank "best" for military veterans.

CSX ranked No. 34 this year, followed by BNSF Railway Co. at No. 37; Union Pacific Corp. at No. 156; and Norfolk Southern Railway at No. 214.

Recruitment and employment practices, as well as retention and support programs, were given the most weight in the final rankings, which are designed to help assist transitioning service members, veterans and their families in evaluating prospective employers, CSX officials said in a press release.

"It’s an honor for [us] to be recognized among the best companies in the nation for recruiting, hiring and retaining veterans,"  said Diana Sorfleet, CSX's executive vice president and chief administrative officer. "[Our] veterans consistently demonstrate the teamwork and service commitment that characterize our ONE CSX employee culture."

CSX strives to create a veteran-friendly environment through its career-development programs; through its Pride in Service community investment initiative, which supports the military community and first responders; and through its Military Business Resource Group, which enables veterans to connect and share their insights, challenges and successes.
