Chinese freight-rail coupler imports harm US rail industry, USITC says

The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) recently determined that the sale of Chinese imported freight-rail couplers is harming the U.S. rail industry.

The imports are sold in the United States at less than their value and subsidized by the Chinese government, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC). As a result, the DOC will issue antidumping and countervailing duty orders on freight-rail coupler imports from China, USTIC officials said in a press release.

Previously imported couplers will not be subject to retroactive antidumping or countervailing measures.

USITC plans to issue a full report on July 31 titled "Certain Freight Rail Couplers and Parts Thereof from China."
