The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) announced today that it has finalized the transition to a new, more user-friendly public safety data website.
Required by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021, the new site was created with input from FRA stakeholders, associations, state departments of transportation and researchers, according to an FRA press release.
The new site includes a combination of data tables, visuals and narrative components. The FRA will regularly update the site in 2025 and beyond, incorporating feedback from stakeholders, agency officials said.
Modernization of the site enables the FRA to build new data assets; provide a user-friendly interface to view, filter and export data; provide definitions and descriptions for easier data comprehension; and enhance data dissemination through OData and API access.
The site now aligns with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Open Data Portal, data.transportation.gov. It also contains a Data Catalog that lists all available datasets and reports by agency or by topic.
