The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will hold a hearing March 17 to gather information on reauthorizing federal surface transportation programs.

The hearing — the second in a two-part series on surface transportation reauthorization — will focus on the perspectives of state and local governments. The first hearing, held in February, featured the testimony of U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Fox.

The committee is working on developing a long-term surface transportation bill that "improves America's infrastructure and competitiveness, provides economic growth, and helps create jobs," according to a statement issued by the committee. The extension of the current law, known by the acronym MAP-21, is set to expire May 31.

Scheduled to testify at next week's hearing are North Carolina Gov. Patrick McCory on behalf of the National Governors Association, Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker on behalf of the National League of Cities, and Wyoming Department of Transportation Director John Cox on behalf of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.
