Texas Transportation Institute to conduct safety study for Houston METRO

advertisement

In order to ensure the safety of its month-old light-rail system, Houston METRO recently hired Texas A&M University’s Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) to document traffic deficiencies and recommend necessary system enhancements.

University experts in traffic safety, traffic control devices, and light-rail traffic design and safety will examine the 7.5-mile METRO system. METRO expects TTI to issue a report in about 30 days.

Until then, the agency will postpone service changes. If TTI determines the system is safe and reliable, METRO plans to double the number of trains on the line.
