Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) recently obtained a $23 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration for its Central Corridor light-rail double-tracking project.

MTA will use the grant to continue double-tracking 9.4 miles of a line between Timonium and Cromwell stations in Glen Burnie, Md. Scheduled to be complete in 2006, the project will improve service reliability on the line, and enable crews to conduct maintenance and repairs without delays, according to a prepared statement.

The agency now has received $62.2 million in federal funds for the project.

The 29-mile Central Corridor runs between Hunt Valley and Glen Burnie, serving Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties.
