S.F. Bay-area transit agencies obtain state security funds

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) are among 14 San Francisco Bay-area transit agencies that will receive a portion of $21 million in state funds available for security improvements in the region.
SFMTA will obtain more than $7 million to boost the San Francisco Municipal Railway’s security. The agency plans to use proceeds to improve surveillance and security measures at facilities, and purchase one incident command bus and two command vans. The vehicles will enable SFMTA security personnel to monitor emergency and large-scale events.
Meanwhile, VTA will receive $3.3 million to install emergency security telephones at light-rail stations, laser intrusion detection systems, high-security fencing and other technologies.
