• Wabtec Corp. has acquired Fulmer Co., which generates annual sales of about $15 million, according to a Wabtec press release. Fulmer designs and manufactures brush holders and spring assemblies for electric traction motors and generators. The company’s products are used in freight, transit-rail and other markets. Fulmer will be a “strong complement to our Swiger Coil traction motor business,” said Wabtec President and Chief Executive Officer Albert Neupaver. “In addition, we expect to generate top-line synergies through Wabtec’s sales channels, especially in international markets.”

• Brookville Equipment Corp. has selected contracting firm Allison and Associates to begin construction on a 12,000 square-foot expansion facility in Brookville, Pa., Brookville Equipment announced in a press release. The expansion will add production space, including underground work pits, equipment wash stations and a 100-foot paint booth featuring a recirculation cure cycle that will decrease drying time and recycle 80 percent of the air. Surveying and site preparation has begun; construction is expected to be completed in about five months.

• Alstom has obtained a contract worth $120 million with TCDD, the national railway operator of Turkey, to install signaling and telecommunication systems on a 204-mile rail link connecting Eskisehir to Balikesir near the Aegean coast, according to a press release. The contract covers design, manufacturing and supply of Alstom’s complete trackside Atlas ERTMS/ETCS system. Alstom also will supply level crossing systems, technical equipment buildings, power distribution and power supply systems. The ERTMS/ETCS on-board equipment and automatic train stop device will be installed on 27 TCDD locomotives.

• Siemens Rail Systems Division obtained a $134.8 million contract to manufacture 40 four-unit Avenio trams for the HTM Materieel B.V. operator in The Hauge, the first city in the world to purchase the Avenio trams, according to Siemens. The agreement also includes an option for the purchase of up to 40 additional Avenio trams. To be manufactured in Vienna, the trams are scheduled to be delivered starting in February 2014.

• ACS Transport Solutions Group has obtained a $129.5 million contract from the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) to equip and install a modernized fare system under the New Payment Technologies (NPT) program, SEPTA officials said in a prepared statement. The new system will replace tokens, paper tickets and magnetic strip passes with fare-paying options, such as bank cards, identification cards and smart phones. NPT will be rolled out first on buses and trolleys, then on the Market-Frankford and Broad Street lines, and then the regional rail system. Installation is expected to be completed in three years.
