In the wee hours of this morning, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved the American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act, a five-year, $260 billion surface transportation bill.
The bill, H.R. 7, includes an amendment proposed by Rep. Jeff Denham (R-Calif.) that ensures highway dollars are not used for California’s high-speed rail project. The amendment was approved yesterday when the committee marked up the reauthorization bill.
“This administration and the California Legislature want high-speed rail at any cost, they will spend lavishly without a disciplined plan and say anything to get it done,” said Denham, who serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, in a prepared statement. “This amendment will prohibit highway bill money from being used on a project that is going nowhere fast.”
