Rail News: High-Speed Rail

Congressional negotiators eliminate HSR funding for FY2012

This week, House and Senate negotiators agreed on a fiscal-year 2012 transportation spending bill that includes no funding for the High Speed Intercity Passenger Rail program, according to a posting on the National Association of Railroad Passengers blog page.

The Senate had previously approved $100 million for the high-speed program in FY12; the House’s version of the spending plan included nothing. The bill is expected to pass in both the House and Senate later this week.

In an article posted on USAToday.com last night, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he and other high-speed rail supporters will try to revive high-speed rail funding in the transportation reauthorization bill.
