Yesterday, the Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority's (ACTA) governing board elected Los Angeles City Councilman and ACTA Vice Chairman Janice Hahn to a one-year term as chairman. She succeeds Long Beach Vice Mayor Frank Colonna, who will succeed Hahn as vice chairman for fiscal year 2004-05.

In June 2001, Hahn was elected to the 15th District of L.A.'s city council.

"With the new initiatives we have adopted to reduce congestion, clean up the air, find better places to store empty cargo containers and other projects now on line, I look forward to the next year," said Hahn in a prepared statement.

ACTA's board comprises representatives from the cities and ports of L.A. and Long Beach, and the L.A. County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The board governs the $2.4 billion, 20-mile Alameda Corridor, a freight-rail expressway between the ports of L.A. and Long Beach that opened in April 2002.
