The Appalachian Regional Port (ARP) logged its busiest November on record, handling 3,876 containers, a nearly 35% increase from last year.
A joint effort of the state of Georgia, Murray County, the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) and CSX, the ARP is an inland rail terminal located near Chatsworth, Georgia. The terminal connects to the Port of Savannah's Garden City Terminal via daily CSX service.
Each container shipped by rail between the terminals eliminates about 710 roundtrip truck miles, GPA officials said in a press release.
The roughly 1,000-container gain underscores the inland terminal's growth as a regional logistics hub, GPA officials said. The ARP handled more than 46,000 containers in fiscal-year 2025, which ended June 30. Through the first five months of FY2026, the ARP has handled 20,030 containers, a 20% increase from the same period a year ago.
