America’s Central Port recently learned the state of Illinois will provide a $5 million grant to help fund the acquisition of land for a rail-served industrial development megasite in Granite City, Illinois.

The funds will be provided through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s regional site readiness program.

America’s Central Port plans to purchase 350 acres for the megasite. The port currently manages two multi-modal harbors and a 1,200-acre industrial and logistics park, and provides services to bulk shippers of grain, fertilizer, steel, petroleum and other commodities.

America's Central Port is connected to the six Class Is via the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis. The port area is home to rail-served sites, warehouses and transload facilities.
