KCS boots up Web-based tracing tool for intermodal customers

Last week, Kansas City Southern’s information technology department implemented new tracking and tracing applications on the Class I’s Web sites.

Previously available only to Kansas City Southern Railway Co.’s and Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V.’s carload customers, the tools now can be used by intermodal customers, as well.

By logging onto www.kcsi.com, www.tfm.com.mx or www.kcsouthern.com, carload and intermodal shippers can obtain information on cargo locations, trip plans and last reported events. Users also can filter data to trace cars with different commodities, routes, origins and destinations.

Next year, KCS plans to boot up an online tool that will enable customers to trace cars or intermodal equipment before and after interchanges.
