The Port of Long Beach moved nearly 818,000 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in April, down 5.7% from the volume moved in the same month last year, which was the port's busiest April on record.

The port handled about 390,000 TEUs of imports in the month, down 7.1% year over year. Exports were up 26.7% year over year, port officials said in a press release. The port moved 309,000 TEUs of empty containers, down 12.6% year over year.

Also in April, the port unveiled a new cyber defense operations center. The facility features enhanced technology for 24/7 cybersecurity monitoring and defense of the many data networks critical to port operations, port officials said.

On average, the port blocks or stops an attempted cyber attack every three seconds. The new center enables the port to double the number of on-site staff focused on digital supply chain defense, they added.
