Maersk Line, BNSF team up to provide 'Flagship' import container service

Yesterday, Maersk Line announced it launched a new “Flagship” intermodal service for containerized freight moving from Asia to Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Memphis and northwest Ohio. BNSF Railway Co. will serve as the rail provider for Flagship service, which offers dedicated, non-stop trains arriving at an agreed-upon time in each market.
Flagship trains will bypass connecting points along the route to provide “unmatched service velocity,” Maersk Line officials said in a prepared statement. Ensuring on-time delivery can improve intermodal customer's supply chain and inventory management, they said, adding that Flagship will provide a 95 percent on-time delivery rate.
Investments by Maersk Line and BNSF over the past several years have helped develop an expanded rail network, state-of-the-art intermodal facilities and increased loading capabilities at ports, Maersk Line officials said. The five markets represent Flagship's initial implementation, and Maersk Line might expand the service to other markets in the future.
By collaborating with long-time customer Maersk Line, BNSF can continue to offer next-generation intermodal solutions to customers around the world, said Steve Branscum, BNSF’s group vice president-consumer products marketing.
“We look forward to delivering the best on-time performance levels and service reliability to help shippers achieve superior supply chain performance,” he said.
