The Minnesota Department of Transportation is seeking public input on a draft of its state freight plan, which outlines the next 20 years of anticipated freight infrastructure trends and investments.
Written feedback is due Sept. 18. Information on how to submit input can be found on the state freight plan's webpage.
The draft plan identifies expanded intermodal shipping access as a future need for the state. Historically, the state's intermodal facilities in located in the Twin Cities, leaving Minnesota shippers with hours of driving via truck to get to an intermodal station.
The MnDOT plan also cites as freight trends: national and global labor disputes; workforce changes; supply-chain shortages; higher market demands and pushes for environmentally friendly transportation.
