On Oct. 23, New York Regional Rail Corp. (NYRR) announced it elected Gordon Kuhn chairman and extended an intermodal-service agreement with Unified Environmental Services Group L.L.C.

After spending more than 25 years in the railroad industry, Kuhn retired as senior vice president from Conrail, where he was responsible for managing more than $1.8 billion in revenue, as well as sales, marketing, customer service, billing and collecting, car management and industrial development.

"Kuhn's proven track record of success, coupled with his reputation throughout the transportation industry, will provide the needed crucial credentials to guide our company as it continues to progress," said board member Ronald Bridges in a prepared statement.

NYRR also recently extended until July 2006 an intermodal-service agreement with Unified Environmental Services, which accounts for $2.4 million or 45 percent of the company's annual revenue. The new deal provides NYRR subsidiaries rail-car transportation and storage charges, a facility-use payment of $30,000 annually and various non-refundable fees totaling $180,000.

Under agreement terms, JS Transportation will truck loaded containers from various facilities throughout the New York/New Jersey metropolitan region to Virginia or New York Cross Harbor Railroad Terminal Corp.'s Greenville, N.J. facility. Cars then will be loaded and moved to Helena, Ark.
