The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is soliciting entries for its first annual Mobi Awards to recognize state municipalities that have completed multimodal transportation projects that have led to economic development and other local benefits. The mobility awards will showcase the important role that investments in rail, public transportation and other transportation modes play in creating "healthy, vibrant communities and sparking economic development," NCDOT officials said in a press release.Entries should describe a transportation project that was completed within the last five years, and includes two or more modes of transportation such as transit, bicycle, pedestrian, rail, aviation, ferry or roadway. Top projects will be awarded in five categories: urban, suburban, rural, tourism and innovation."The goal of the NCDOT Mobi Awards is to raise the profile of multimodal projects and the transformational impact they can have on communities," said NCDOT Deputy Secretary for Multimodal Transportation Julie White.Submissions will be accepted through Jan. 22, 2019.
