The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) logged 755,437 20-foot-equivalent units (TEUs) of cargo in October, a 13.4% increase compared with October 2019's level, authority officials announced yesterday.
The increase brings PANYNJ's total volume for the year through October to 6,137,859 TEUs, PANYNJ officials said in a press release.
October imports totaled 405,415 TEUs during the month, an 18.9% increase compared with October 2019. From January through October, imports reached 3,198,861 TEUs, a 0.1% increase compared with the same period a year ago.
October exports totaled 350,022 TEUs, up 7.6%. From January through October, exports reached 2,938,998 TEUs, up 4.9%.
Rail volume climbed 13.8% to 65,677 containers in October compared with a year ago. From January through October, rail volume rose 4.5% versus the same 2019 period.
