The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners recently repealed a cargo fee that had been on the Port of Long Beach's books since 2008, but never implemented or collected. The Infrastructure Cargo Fee would have placed a charge on each cargo container to help fund road and rail improvements in and around the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. The fee was initiated in conjunction with the Port of Los Angeles, which never implemented the charge, either. The ports have advanced efforts to modernize and improve infrastructure using other revenue sources, according to a press release.
