Ports in Duluth, Minn., and Mobile, Ala., recently tied for top honors in the Railway Industrial Clearance Association’s (RICA) annual Port Service Awards for North America. The other ports in RICA’s top 10 include those located in Corpus Christi and Houston, Texas; Albany, N.Y.; Savannah, Ga.; Charleston, S.C.; Norfolk, Va.; Tacoma, Wash.; and Tampa, Fla.
Among the criteria RICA uses to rank the ports are “facilities” and “overall service.” Ballots were cast by representatives of railroads, trucking companies, ocean carriers, logistics providers and manufacturers.
“Being ranked first by RICA is a significant honor for us because it is presented by a group that deals specifically with dimensional cargoes and was awarded by the very people we serve,” said Jonathan Lamb, vice president and general manager of Duluth port marine terminal operator Lake Superior Warehousing Co. Inc., in a prepared statement.
