SeaPort Manatee in Palmetto, Florida, yesterday reported record cargo flow for fiscal-year 2025 ending Sept. 30.
The port handled 11,855,828 tons of cargo in FY25, surpassing the prior record of 11,779,601 tons moved in FY24, port officials said in a press release.
Petroleum products and juices were key contributors to the port's record liquid bulk movement. In the fiscal year, Seaport Manatee moved 6,400,844 tons of liquid bulk, up 8% from FY24. The port also moved 3,442,991 tons of dry bulk commodities, up 9.7%. Dry bulk movement was boosted by phosphate rock, granite and limestone.
Breakbulk tonnage moving through the port rose 10.4% from FY24, reaching 793,844 tons. This was in part due to Del Monte Fresh Produce N.A. Inc. shifting from containerized to breakbulk shipping for its tropical fruit shipments, said port officials. Reflecting this, containerized cargo declined to 919,556 tons from the preceding record of 1,283,027 tons in FY24.
The number of 20-foot-equivalent units handled declined to 133,456 from the record 168,897 TEUs in FY24.
"SeaPort Manatee has proven its resilience through its rapid recovery from Hurricane Milton, which made landfall just south of the port on Oct. 9, 2024, only nine days into fiscal 2025,” said Carlos Buqueras, SeaPort Manatee’s executive director.
Port Manatee Railroad, a short line with a direct connection to a CSX mainline, serves the port.
