The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, won first place at the Intermodal Association of North America’s (IANA) 2024 Intermodal Case Study Competition. It was the school’s first time participating in the scholarship competition at the IANA Intermodal EXPO, which was held Sept. 9-11 in Long Beach, California.
The four students from the winning team – Jaren Bussell, Elizabeth Shuler, Brock Sooley and Kathryn Whittaker – most successfully addressed the issues of attracting new drivers to the intermodal industry and navigating different business models, according to an IANA press release.
IANA’s scholarship awards support student tuition, student research projects on intermodal issues, and the development of curriculum on intermodal transportation and supporting industries. How IANA's scholarship funding is exactly distributed varies between schools. Since the competition’s start in 2007, IANA has awarded over $5.3 million to participating universities.
Other participating universities were the California State Maritime Academy, College of Charleston, Georgia Southern University, SUNY Maritime, and the Universities of Arkansas, Maryland, North Florida, North Texas and Wisconsin at Superior.
