Union Pacific Railroad and Norfolk Southern Railway recently expanded the Blue Streak, a joint expedited intermodal service between several major markets in the western and northeastern United States.

Eastbound and westbound service now is available between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City, and Chicago; Harrisburg, Morrisville and Rutherford, Pa.; and Elizabeth (Erail), N.J. Westbound service is available between Harrisburg, Morrisville, Rutherford and Elizabeth (Erail); and eastbound service is available between Los Angeles and Denver.

In fall 2001, UP and NS launched Blue Streak, which currently offers three service levels: standard, premium and SuperFlyer. Standard service provides price-sensitive customers access to Blue Streak trains, subject to availability; premium service offers priority train space, freight monitoring and improved cut-off and availability times; and SuperFlyer service offers guaranteed equipment availability and on-time delivery.
