The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and Apple announced that later this year CTA transit riders can add a fare card to the Apple Pay iPhone app.

The feature will enable passengers using the Ventra fare payment system to load card information onto their iPhone, then scan the phone to enter rail stations or board a bus.

CTA will be one of the first U.S. transit agencies to debut the function, CTA officials said in a press release.

“New Ventra Cards on iPhone will build on the strength of the existing Ventra system to make commuting in Chicago even easier and more convenient, and help modernize America’s second largest mass transit system for the 21st century,” Mayor Rahm Emanuel and CTA President Dorval Carted said in a joint statement.
