KCS boots up online tool to help boost cross-border business

Kansas City Southern's cross-border intermodal volumes are growing at a high double-digit clip, as witnessed by a 98 percent surge in third-quarter 2012. To help maintain the momentum, the Class I has launched an online tool designed to show intermodal shippers how simple and cost-effective it can be to convert more cross-border truckloads to rail.

"Take the Fast Track across the Border" initially was rolled out at the Intermodal Association of North America's conference in November and now is accessible on KCS' home page. The tool touts the speed, security, simplicity and savings available to KCS intermodal customers, reviews cross-border processes and informs shippers how to start using the service.

The tool shows shippers how KCS can help transform their supply chain logistics, said KCS Senior Vice President of Intermodal Brian Bowers in an item posted on the "KCS News" web page.

"Awareness of our strategically-positioned cross-border rail line, access to ocean and gulf ports and network of state-of-the-art intermodal facilities is gaining traction in the market," he said.

Later this year, KCS plans to add more tools to its website to help shippers and receivers better understand cross-border intermodal and how to conduct business in Mexico.
