Kansas City Southern's construction of a new intermodal terminal in Wylie, Texas, is well underway with concrete poured and two new 5,000-foot intermodal tracks in place, the Class I announced in its March 13 online edition of KCS News.

The Wylie terminal, which will replace the current terminal in Dallas, is on schedule to open this summer, the Class I reported.

When completed, the facility will have an annual lift capacity of 342,000 units and more than 1,500 parking spaces. Other features will include acceleration and deceleration lanes and traffic signals, which will be designed to facilitate traffic fluidity in and around the facility. An automated gate system and mechanical tracks will improve safety, efficiency and security by offering high-definition imagery along with optical character recognition and biometric driver identification, KCS officials said.

A fact sheet on the new terminal can be found here.
