Added security: NS to issue photo ID cards to all employees

To increase security, Norfolk Southern Railway this month began issuing corporate photo identification cards to its 28,500 employees, according to the Class I's monthly newsletter released July 21.

Employees must carry the card — which feature a worker's photo and employee identification number — when on duty or traveling on business.

"We want everyone on our property, and those entering customers' properties, to be easily identified as NS employees," said Director of NS Police Steve Hanes. "We want to make sure our people are safer in their workplace, and we want to help our customers be more comfortable knowing exactly who is on their property at any time."

Employees must show proof of their employee identification number — such as a paycheck advisory or printout from NS' online Employee Resource Center — to obtain a card.
