The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) National Division has launched a new website to provide members with information about the current round of negotiations with railroad companies represented by the National Carriers' Conference Committee (NCCC).

The current round of bargaining began Nov. 1, 2019, when the BLET announced it would participate in coordinated bargaining with nine other unions. The 10 unions make up the Coordinated Bargaining Coalition (CBC).

CBC members are the American Train Dispatchers Association; BLET/Teamsters Rail Conference; Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen; International Association of Machinists; International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers–Transportation Division; International Brotherhood of Boilermakers; National Conference of Firemen and Oilers; International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; Transport Workers Union of America; and Transportation Communications Union/IAM (TCU), including TCU's Carmen Division.

Combined, the CBC unions represent more than 105,000 railroad workers covered by the organizations' national agreements, and comprise over 80 percent of the workforce that will be affected by this round of negotiations, BLET officials said in a press release.

The freight railroads and unions negotiate under the Railway Labor Act, which is designed to minimize service disruptions because of labor disputes. Under the law, collective bargaining agreements remain in force indefinitely.

The NCCC represents more than 30 railroads in national bargaining with rail unions. Included in the group are BNSF Railway Co., CSX, Kansas City Southern, Norfolk Southern Railway, Union Pacific Railroad and the U.S. railroads owned directly or indirectly by CN.
