CN's GTW territory workers ratify five-year agreement

Yesterday, Canadian National Railway Co. announced 91 percent of Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen-represented workers in the former Grand Trunk Western (GTW) territory ratified a new five-year agreement.

Retroactive to Aug. 1, 2005, the contract covers about 240 employees working along GTW’s mainline between Chicago and Port Huron, Mich. The pact provides wage increases and replaces a traditional mileage- and rule-based pay system with hourly rates.

Most of the Class I’s U.S. train and engine-service workers are covered by hourly rate agreements, CN said.
