CSXT speeds up T&E job assignments with speech-enabled system

CSX Transportation recently implemented speech-enabled crew management software so train and engine-service (T&E) workers can obtain job assignments without contacting a crew dispatcher.

Supplied by Intervoice Inc., the software is designed to incorporate all labor agreements and work rules. T&E employees call into the speech-enabled system and indicate the job they're seeking; the system then tells them what jobs are available and the worker selects a job.

"Before we had this application, when an employee would call in and work through the crew dispatcher to make a seniority move, it was taking an average of 10 minutes," said Tim Male, CSXT assistant vice president of crew management, in a prepared statement. "Currently, the process is taking an average of two minutes and 35 seconds per move, reducing average call durations by 74 percent."
