The Chicago South Shore & South Bend Railroad and the Transportation Division of the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (SMART-TD) have approved a five-year contract for the railroad’s transportation employees.

The contract runs retroactively from Oct. 1, 2021, to Sept. 30, 2026. SMART-TD represents 32 locomotive engineers, conductors and brakemen at CSS, which is an affiliate of Anacostia Rail Holdings. The short line operates 127 miles of track between Chicago and South Bend, Indiana, as well as between Chicago and Kingsbury, Indiana.

"Our membership of Local 1526 who work for CSS Freight are pleased with the new contract," said SMART-TD Vice President Jamie Modesitt in a press release. "Collaboration with the company over the past eight months has created a win-win outcome for both sides."

CSS President Todd Bjornstad described the new agreement as a "nice package for a talented group of railroaders who run our trains and serve our customers."
