The Montreal Port Authority (MPA) recently announced that the Maritime Employers Association and Canadian Union of Public Employees Longshoremen's Union Local 375 have signed a new six-year agreement at the Port of Montreal.

Expiring at 2018's end, the new accord provides a gradual salary increase ranging from 1 percent to 3 percent, includes better work schedules and sets working conditions.

"This agreement … sends a very positive message of stability to port clients around the world, and it allows us to continue our work on various development projects related to our activities," said MPA President and Chief Executive Officer Sylvie Vachon in a prepared statement.

The Port of Montreal operates its own rail network, which connects with CN and Canadian Pacific.
