The Montreal Port Authority (MPA) announced that Canadian Union of Public Employees members ratified a six-year collective agreement on Dec. 12.

The pact, which expires on Dec. 31, 2018, covers Port of Montreal railway employees, such as locomotive operators, signal workers and yardmasters. The port operates its own rail network, which connects with CN and Canadian Pacific.

The contract "will ensure industrial peace for the next six years, while strengthening the stability of the port services from which our partners and customers benefit," said MPA President and Chief Executive Officer Sylvie Vachon in a press release. "This stability will also contribute to the efficiency and competitiveness of our port operations."
